DEEP SEA FISHING CHARTERS
MEET YOUR CAPTAIN
Captain Jason Downs is the owner and operator of Bite Back Charters. Born in Birmingham, Alabama but having lived all over the South East including Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky has allowed Captain Jason to hone his skills in many diverse fisheries. A fishing enthusiast through and through Captain Jason gets just as excited catching a plump smallmouth in a cool Kentucky creek as he does catching a billfish in the Gulf of Mexico. Jason brings this genuine excitement and love for the water with him every day on his charters and it shows in his dedication to his clients.
Jason started his guiding career offering offshore Kayak charters. This venture was successful for Captain Jason where he quickly became well known as the go to guy when it comes to offshore kayak fishing. With impressive catches such as big snapper, cobia, tuna, mahi-mahi and sailfish kayak anglers were coming from around the country to Navarre, Florida to fish with Jason. As successful as the kayaks were, Jason wanted to move on. Fishing on the kayaks is a blast but taking people out on boats allows him to share the wonders of the Gulf of Mexico with a larger audience than the kayaks allowed. From first time anglers, a family with children to the “seasoned” anglers out there.
A self described “fish nerd”, Captain Jason not only loves to fish but enjoys studying them, reading about them and keeping them in one of the several fish tanks in his house. On the water you can expect to not only catch some fish but learn a fact or two about them along with other local wildlife as well!
While not fishing Captain Jason spends time with his wife who is an RN at a local Emergency Room and 9 year old daughter who is about as crazy as fishing as he is!
OUR CHARTER BOAT
Our boat is a 26’Twin Vee Catamaran with twin Suzuki 140HP 4-stroke motors. The Suzukis are super quiet, reliable and fuel efficient allowing us to get to our fishing spots quickly and with out that diesel fume smell! Each motor has its own fuel and electrical system for double the reliability. She is outfitted with the latest in fish finding electronics including chirp sonar with side imaging as well as down imaging. For safety and navigation she has radar, GPS, Sirius weather radar, and VHF Radio as well as all of the required USCG safety gear.
The catamaran style hull has several advantages over traditional mono (V-bottom) style hulls. There is an amazing amount of fishing space on this vessel giving you room to fight the big one! If the seas get rough, the “cat” hulls slice through the chop with ease and do not “pound” like mono hulls. Your back will hurt from fighting the fish, not the boat ride! At rest, she is super stable with very little side to side rocking.
On deck there are two live wells to keep plenty of baits lively. A large 220qt fish box for your catch as well as a large cooler for your drinks and snacks. The large T-Top helps keep that warm Florida sun at bay. There is storage available for your cameras, wallets, cell phones and any other gear you would like to stow. We use quality Penn and Shimano fishing gear. All lines, hooks and other tackle are of top notch quality. We do not skimp on gear at Bite Back! The boat matters, I think you will find that our boat offers some of the most fishing room as well as the best ride in its class!
